Spring fashion: The body shape edition

Category: fashion and beauty

Spring has officially sprung! Sort through all the new season fashion at Stockland with our styling tips to suit your unique shape.

The days are getting warmer and the sun is shining brighter; it’s time to pack away your winter warmers and make space for new season fashion. Get ready for weekends spent frolicking at the beach with friends and playing at the park with the kids.

There are some of us who look forward to this time of the year not only for the abundance of pretty flowers, but also for the array of feminine fashion and flirty hemlines. Gone are the bulky silhouettes of Winter… Spring is the time to flaunt your favourite assets!

No matter how you like to spend your warmer days, we’ve put together a simple guide on what to wear this Spring for your body shape.

1. Pear: Also commonly referred to as a figure eight, if you are pear in shape you have a small-but-still-there bust, clearly defined waist and a voluptuous bottom. Most women with this shape are either in a love or hate relationship with their hips.

If you love your hips don’t be afraid to show them off. Wear tight fitting bottoms like skinny jeans, pencil skirts and shorts. Pair these back with a simple top so you are keeping the focus where you want it to be.

If you’re a little more conservative, draw attention away from your hips with skirts and dresses that cinch you in at the waist and skim over you curves. An a-line cut is perfect for this. Add a statement necklace to draw the eye to your décolletage.

2. Hourglass: The most common of the four featured body shapes, women with an hourglass figure boast hips and bust of equal proportion and a defined waist line. If you buy the same sized clothing for both top and bottom, you are most likely this body shape.

The same style guidelines for pear-shaped women can be applied to this body type but complete figure-hugging styles are encouraged if you have the confidence to rock it. Don’t reserve bodycon dresses purely for night time; wear these on the weekend with cute flats and fine jewellery.

3. Inverted Triangle: If you carry most of your weight in your mid-section, you have a diamond-shaped body.

Tops and dresses with light gathering or ruching on the front will be your best friends. These styles will make your waist appear slimmer and your stomach flatter, boosting your confidence.

Try to steer away from styles that cinch at the waist and instead go for those that come in just under the bust. This way the fabric won’t pull at your tummy.

4. Rectangle: Athletic and lean, the lack of curves in this body shape may make you feel a little boyish but don’t be silly! The rectangle shape is highly desired in the fashion industry as it gives women the freedom to accentuate parts of their body when they wish to.

Create a waist by wearing dresses that tie at the smallest part of your mid-section or add a thin waist belts. Peplum tops will help to give the illusion of shape at your hips. When the nights are cool, pop on a structured blazer to add definition to your shoulders, making your top half appear broader than your bottom half.

Keep in mind with this body shape that you can essentially get away with almost any style… and don’t be afraid to show off your long legs and defined shoulders!
