If you’ve been inspired by the latest reality cooking shows or you’re just keen to make some treats for a kid's birthday party, here's your chance to learn the basics. Butter Cream Icing
Time needed: 20 mins
Serves: 6 cupcakes
250g block butter, room temperature and soft
1 ½ icing sugar, sifted
1 tbs milk
1 tsp Vanilla essence
Step 1: Add the butter, icing sugar, milk and vanilla essence to a food processor and mix for about 2 minutes. The mixture should be light and creamy, with a slight outer gloss.
Step 2: Divide the mixture into 4 separate bowls and add 2-3 drops of colour to each portion. Mix well until the desired colour appears.
Step 3: Before filling your piping bag with icing, drop the nozzle in and make sure there’s no gaps at the tip of the bag by squeezing the base of the nozzle.
Step 4: Have fun and make a mess! It’s all part of the experience.
