Create a cosy atmosphere throughout your home by introducing thick, knitted textures as a design accent. Make couches more inviting by using chunky cable knit cushions or drape a thick cashmere throw; layer your bed with textured bedding and throw cushions in a heavier fabric; choose a luxurious new set of bath towels with a higher thread count… with so many opportunities to add texture, your imagination is the limit.
Set the mood with a darker palette
While we’re talking design accents, choose darker colours this winter to create a sense of warmth. Warm tones like yellows, reds, oranges and warm browns are perfect design accents that will help make your home seem cosier and more intimate. But you don’t have to repaint the whole living room to get the same results; switching the colours of your pillows and throws, as well as lampshades or even replacing your kitchenware and table settings can have a dramatic and refreshing effect. Don’t forget about winter whites and metallic accents too to help make your colour palette really pop.
Colours in bloom
Flowering plants are a great way to add a splash of colour, life and fragrance indoors. The team at Flowers for Everyone recommends the African Violet, the easiest to grow of the flowering houseplants. These beautiful and vivid blooms come in almost every colour, but most commonly come in lush purple petals with a bright yellow sigma. Keep them near a bright window and they will bloom almost constantly.
Heated comfort pillows
There’s nothing more comforting than snuggling up to a warm hot water bottle on a frosty evening, but there’s always the danger of scalding and leaking. That’s why we love the new range of comfort pillows like the one pictured above. These modern heat-packs are often microwavable and infused with aromatherapy ingredients like sage and lavender to gently lull you to sleep.
