How to spoil dad from a distance

Category: community

These great gift ideas will make sure he feels special, even from afar!

Father’s Day is fast approaching and while most of us would normally spend the day spoiling him in person, we’ve had to get a little creative with our celebrations this year. We’ve come up with some great gift ideas that are bound to make him smile.

A legacy video

This may require some prep in the lead-up, but it’s going to be worth it! Create a legacy video for dad this Father’s Day by sending him a list of questions about his life and get mum to video record his answers. You could ask things like: What was a typical day like for you as a teenager? What was your first car? What did you think of mum when you first met her? That one should get a good reaction! Then ask your family members to film them talking about a special memory they have with dad. When they all send back the clips you can put together a simple edit on iMovie (most iPhones have this app already). It doesn’t have to win an Oscar, it just has to be from the heart and it’ll be something you both treasure forever.

A custom-made beverage basket

A box of wine with a greeting card.

From his quirks to his favourite Saturday afternoon sips, you know your dad better than most and there’s nothing better than a custom-made gift to show him you care. A personalised beverage basket full of his top drops is going to put a big smile on his face come Father’s Day. You could even share a virtual drink on the day! And if you need some advice on what to choose, speak to the friendly team at Liquorland or BWS at your local Stockland centre. They’d be happy to help. Just be sure to wrap each bottle in recyclable packaging to make sure they have a smooth transit to dad’s doorstep.

A recurring gift

A subscription box is a great way to keep sharing the love long after Father’s Day is over. You could sign him up to receive a monthly gift like a shaver kit, complete with a fresh set of razors and aftershave. A pamper package like this is something dad wouldn’t ordinarily purchase for himself, but you’d be surprised how appreciative he will be  Or, perhaps dad is a bit of a fishing fanatic? You could sign him up to a boating and fishing magazine subscription – he’ll love it.

A fit Father’s Day gift

An older man checking his watch

If there’s one thing we’re especially appreciative of this year, it’s the ability to go for a walk or a run outside. Which is why a fitness watch is a great Father’s Day gift from afar. It’ll make sure he’s still getting his steps in each day (or a run if he’s an athletic dad), but you can also purchase one for yourself to keep each other accountable! There are plenty of apps that you can sync to your watch and then link up with dad, so you’re both moving together.

A book as a card

If you consider your dad to be a bit of a book worm, instead of a card this year, you could start the tradition of gifting him a book from one of his favourite authors. But this time it’ll have a heartfelt note inside the front cover. Not only will he love the read, particularly if he’s been spending more time indoors than he’d like, but whenever he picks up the book in the future, he’ll be reminded of how special he is to you.

No matter the distance between you and dad this Father’s Day, these gifts are a great way to show him how special he is to you. And you can find many of them in the one handy location, your local Stockland centre.
