As October draws to a close, witches, wizards, ghosts and ghouls come out to play, Jack-O lanterns line the streets and the kids collect enough sweet treats to last them a lifetime. Yes, of course, we’re talking about Halloween!
When it comes to throwing a killer Halloween party, it all comes down to the decorations. They need to be spooky and creative, but also somewhat realistic. So think along the lines of spiders, cobwebs, candles, and pumpkins, as well as black cats, bats, and witch’s hats.
Depending on your plans for Halloween this year, you don’t necessarily need to turn your entire house upside down with decorations.
If you’re pre-empting the trick-or-treater’s, decking out the exterior of your home with spooky signage, cobwebs, jack-o lantern’s, spiders and bats is an effective, and relatively inexpensive way to get into the spirit this Halloween.
But if you’re playing host to a house full of guests, then the inside of your humble abode must be decorated accordingly. From cut-out bats on the walls, to cotton-wool makeshift cobwebs, candles, and the odd skull here and there, the decorative possibilities are endless.
Let’s start with the exterior of your home – it’s the area your guests will see first, and having your home festively decorated will really set the scene and provide a spine-tingling welcome for your visitors, whether they are party guests or trick-or-treaters.
But you don’t need to spend a fortune in order to make a statement. You can still join in the festivities simply by adding a few simple and cheap embellishments to the front door or patio of your home.
To create a look similar to this, try using a creepy welcome sign, or better yet, you can make your own! Utilising other props such as tea light candles, an owl skeleton and a light up pumpkin will also add to the overall theme of your decorations.
You could also use cobwebs with tiny spiders attached and Halloween-themed caution tape, as well as a large spider and a fake-blood splatter to give it an and extra spooky feel.
When planning decorations for the interior of your home this Halloween, grab some glass candles in various shades of black and orange, and make sure you utilise the remainder of the cobwebs from outside.
If you’re feeling really creative and want to give your decorations a DIY feel, draw and cut out some bats to stick on the walls of your home, or perhaps you could make spiders from pipe cleaners and hang them from light fittings or other high surfaces.
It really is all up to you.
