Thursday 3 December 2020 is International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) and Stockland is proud to support this day and to create places where everyone feels welcome.
IDPwD is celebrated by millions of people throughout the world and aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with a disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
Despite the challenging year, we’ve been successful in delivering new inclusive playspaces at Stockland Merrylands and Stockland Shellharbour in New South Wales, Stockland Cairns in Queensland, and later this month, our Edgebrook community in Victoria, bringing the total number of Stockland inclusive playpsaces to 23.
In addition to these playspaces, we have a range of other inclusive amenities available at a number of our town centres, such as dedicated Quiet Rooms, Parent Rooms, Multi-Faith Rooms and Adult Change Rooms which are equipped with an adjustable changing table and hoist to assist carers and people with disabilities.
We have also partnered with Australian start-up BindiMaps to integrate its revolutionary wayfinding smartphone app into our centres. The app uses beacon technology to assist people who live with vision impairment to navigate their local town centre.
We have implemented BindiMaps at four of our retail town centres in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, and plan to roll this initiative out more widely going forward.
We want everyone who visits our centres to feel welcome, be able to maintain their sense of independence and have the equal access they deserve.
