Our sustainability strategy integrates with our business strategy and priorities, providing a better way to deliver shared value for all of our stakeholders. Central to our ability to deliver long-term value are our core sustainability priorities to shape thriving communities, optimise and innovate, and enrich our value chain.
Our commitment to sustainability has led to our recognition as global leaders according to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark, and the CDP Climate A List.
The infographic below describes the priorities of our sustainability strategy and shows our global accolades.
Since our first corporate responsibility and sustainability strategy in 2006, we have continuously lifted the benchmark for sustainability in the property sector. Our commitment to mitigating climate change began with setting an electricity intensity target and has since developed into an industry-leading renewable energy program and net zero carbon targets. Our enduring commitment to our communities has resulted in the most Green Star rated communities of any property developer, an industry-first Liveability Index, and a total community contribution in excess of $34 million since 2013.
Our proven track record was recognised by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, who awarded us the "Best of the Best" 10-Year Sustainability Achievement Award at the 2018 Green Globe Awards.
The infographic below provides a timeline of key achievements dating back to 2006, across the spectrum of our sustainability strategy focus areas.
Our retail town centres act as hubs for the local community, offering a range of experiences, events and community activities. We know that sustainable centres are more comfortable for our customers, and more attractive retail spaces for our tenants.
Across our commercial property business, including our office buildings and business parks, we apply practice design to deliver comfortable, productive spaces that operate efficiently and with a low environmental footprint. We seek independent certification of our portfolio's sustainability performance, and use these benchmarks to continuously raise the bar.

We develop liveable, inclusive and accessible communities where our residents are happy and healthy. We design our communities to be resilient, with enhanced energy and water efficiency.
Nearly three-quarters of our homes are sold to owner-occupiers, with over half of purchasers purchasing their first home in a Stockland community. We know that sustainable can be affordable, and in fact results in savings for our residents in the long-term.
Our focus on sustainable communities has led to us delivering the most Green Star rated residential communities in Australia. This infographic explains some of our sustainability targets and initiatives for our residential communities through to 2020.
Our retirement living villages support community connection, health and wellbeing through state-of-the-art clubhouses and myriad community activities. Our retirement living homes are built with accessibility in mind, and save residents money by using energy efficiently.
We make sure that our villages provide residents with what they require as their needs change, through access to our exclusive Benefits Plus program, through the use of Livable Housing Australia accessibility design standards, and through provision of new types of retirement living homes such as our vertical villages.
