The Wattle Park team were honoured to be joined by representatives from the Bunarong Land Council recently to conduct a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country.
The project team at Stockland Wattle Park were honoured to be joined by Eric Edwards and Jungala Ellis - representatives from the Bunurong Land Council to conduct a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country at the future community site in Tarneit.
The Smoking Ceremony was a moving way for us to pay our respects to their Elders past, present and support those that are emerging, and presented a chance to learn more about the cultural heritage of the site, including how it was used and its placement in relation to the neighbouring Werribee River.
The Bunurong representatives then gave us a Welcome to Country which was their way to acknowledge safe passage and consent to work on their traditional lands.
It was a fantastic experience and a relationship we look forward to building on as the project evolves.
