All the qualities that symbolise the ANZAC spirit - endurance, courage and mateship are more important than ever during this time.

This Saturday join us as we pay respect and reflect on the dedication, commitment and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom by standing in your driveway, balcony, verandah or porch at 6am to commemorate the Anzacs.

Tune into ABC Perth (via the ABC Listen app or via 720AM on your radio) for a special 'Driveways at Dawn' service, featuring The Ode, The Last Post and a minute of silence, where you can pay your respects from wherever you may be.

Traditional Anzac Biscuits Recipe

Anzac biscuits have long been associated with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps established in WW1. These were biscuits sent to soldiers by their wives because the ingredients were not likely to spoil and would travel well.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup coconut
  • 125g butter
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 2tbsp boiling water

Method

Preheat oven to 150 degrees. Line two baking trays with baking paper. Melt butter with golden syrup, stir in the bicarb soda dissolved in the water. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Drop rounded teaspoons of mixture onto the lined oven trays and flatten slightly. Bake in a slow oven (150 degrees) for about 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Enjoy!
