Celebrating International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a very special day of the year. It’s a day where we get to celebrate all the incredible women in our lives and acknowledge the hard work, they put into the things they’re passionate about each day. Whether they’re creative chefs serving up delicious dishes for the local community, fashion designers creating gorgeous gowns, or simply hard-working mums who are dedicated to teaching their children how to navigate the world, we’re constantly inspired by the women around us and how their diverse range of skills help to make the world a better place.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re taking the theme ‘inspired inclusion’ out into our local centres and communities to showcase some of our incredible retailers, staff, and community members who are paving the way for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.
Today, we’re chatting with Stacy Tierney from The Little Scallywagz and learning more about what inspires her
What inspired you to want to play a larger role in your community? - The Wiggles without a doubt have been such an example and role model to me. I saw what joy and wholesome entertainment they brought to young children and families of all communities around the world. This inspired me to follow my dreams and become a children’s songwriter, to produce and perform live stage shows that are filled with fun, music and dance, imagination, friendship and inclusiveness. I wanted to give something back to families in our community, to make people happy, to make them smile and feel connected. I truly believe that music brings people together and is the heartbeat of the world.
What does the phrase “inspired inclusion” mean to you? - Inspired inclusion to me means sharing my experiences and knowledge with others and helping them grow and learn. As my role as owner and producer of the Little Scallywagz children’s entertainment group, I work with a team of young women who I encourage to believe in themselves and their abilities. I welcome them to be innovative, bring forth ideas and always challenge them to new roles and experiences. I help them to step outside their comfort zones and support them in their development and all other adventures they wish to pursue.
Who are some other women in your community that inspire you? - Without a doubt my mother who has triumphed through many unforeseen challenges in her life. She has always encouraged me to pursue my goals and dreams and has been my strength, hope and support throughout the years on my crazy and wonderful journey.
I am also forever grateful to my amazing friend and mentor Dana Pichaloff, NSW State Marketing Manager for Event Cinemas, who inspires me every day. I have worked with Dana on many community projects over the years and have learnt so much from her expertise and experience. It never ceases to amaze me how effortlessly she is willing to give so much and to see others succeed and excel.
How do you think other women can help make their community more inclusive? - I believe by being involved, by being connected and fostering positive engagement with other women. By knowing their communities’ values and creating safe and inclusive spaces to talk.
What is it about working with your local community that you love the most? I love that I can bring so much joy and happiness to so many people. As a performer, when I look out at the crowds of children and families, laughing, smiling, singing and dancing at our shows, my heart is instantly warmed and filled with delight, and there is honestly no greater feeling than that.
