Celebrating International Women’s Day with Helen from the McGrath Foundation 

International Women’s Day is a very special day of the year. It’s a day where we get to celebrate all the incredible women in our lives and acknowledge the hard work they put into the things they’re passionate about each day. Whether they’re creative chefs serving up delicious dishes for the local community, fashion designers creating gorgeous gowns, or simply hard-working mums who are dedicated to teaching their children how to navigate the world, we’re constantly inspired by the women around us and how their diverse range of skills help to make the world a better place.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re taking the theme ‘inspired inclusion’ out into our local centres and showcasing some of our incredible retailers, staff, and community members who are paving the way for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.

Today, we’re chatting with Helen from the McGrath Foundation. 

What inspired you to want to play a larger role in your community?
I was recovering from major surgery and made an oath that I would help others like I was helped from doctors and nurses throughout my recovery.

What does the phrase “inspired inclusion” mean to you?
That we are all human, made of the same flesh and blood. No difference in the way we suffer. The only way is to look deep into our hearts and souls only and reach out to others.

Who are some other women in your community that inspire you?
The late Jane McGrath, Tracey Bevan, The McGrath foundation team. As they are my backbone in support and inspiration day after day.

How do you think other women can help make their community more inclusive?
Other women should start finding a purpose in life and work towards achieving it. Nothing is more rewarding than to volunteer and give as my motto in life "to help make a difference." The rewards are greater when you participate to change the lives of other women in this world. Happy women is a happy home ♥️

What is it about working with your local community that you love the most?
Meeting different people, not feeling lonely, helps depression and anxiety, listening and supporting others. This makes you stronger! I have become a woman with such a large chosen family and am so grateful and cherish life more. In the end, kindness is what matters.
