Celebrating International Women’s Day with our local community

International Women’s Day is a very special day of the year. It’s a day where we get to celebrate all the incredible women in our lives and acknowledge the hard work, they put into the things they’re passionate about each day. Whether they’re creative chefs serving up delicious dishes for the local community, fashion designers creating gorgeous gowns, or simply hard-working mums who are dedicated to teaching their children how to navigate the world, we’re constantly inspired by the women around us and how their diverse range of skills help to make the world a better place. To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re taking the theme ‘inspired inclusion’ out into our local centres and showcasing some of our incredible retailers, staff, and community members who are paving the way for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.

Today, we’re chatting with Indra Singh from Point Cook Business Centre and learning more about them.

What inspired you to want to open your business?
The opportunity presented itself and I took a chance to see where this path would take me.

What’s the most rewarding part about running your own business here at Stockland Point Cook?

Most businesses that join us are start-ups and watching them grow over the years is very rewarding.

What does the phrase “inspired inclusion” mean to you?

Regardless, we are all equal and deserve the same rights to thrive and follow our dreams.  A mutual respect in all avenues of life would be ideal, especially in the workplace. I strongly believe that all walks of life can learn from one other regardless of all the differences that are often nothing but irrelevant road blocks.

Who are some other women in your community that inspire you?

In my business I meet a lot of women who at various stages in their lives will try something new, start a new career, some whilst juggling dependent children, a household and some are doing that unsupported, these are the women who inspire me as they show great courage and resilience.

What advice would you give to other women who may be looking to open their own business?

I would say, never second guess yourself, nothing ventured nothing gained.  Sometimes one path may evolve into something amazing and unexpected that you didn’t even plan.  Have a plan, believe in yourself and remember that sometimes doesn’t happen overnight but slow and steady growth is a good thing too.
