Celebrating International Women’s Day with our local community

International Women’s Day is a very special day of the year. It’s a day where we get to celebrate all the incredible women in our lives and acknowledge the hard work, they put into the things they’re passionate about each day. Whether they’re creative chefs serving up delicious dishes for the local community, fashion designers creating gorgeous gowns, or simply hard-working mums who are dedicated to teaching their children how to navigate the world, we’re constantly inspired by the women around us and how their diverse range of skills help to make the world a better place. To celebrate International Women’s Day, we’re taking the theme ‘inspired inclusion’ out into our local centres and showcasing some of our incredible retailers, staff, and community members who are paving the way for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.

Today, we’re chatting with Amanda Zeirzer from Baby Presents and learning more about her.

What inspired you to want to open your business?
I had struggled to find the perfect special occasion baby gift for friends and family to celebrate precious milestones so in 2012 I created Baby Presents as an online store. A one stop shopping experience for busy parents needing to purchase a keepsake baby present.

In 2018 we opened our first retail store in Point Cook at Stockland providing customers a location to touch and feel the products.

I am committed to ensuring you get an “aaaah” moment every time your Baby Presents gift is opened.  My goal is to deliver the most trending bespoke range of special occasion and celebration gifts for babies.

What’s the most rewarding part about running your own business here at Stockland Point Cook?

Meeting all the lovely local customers and hearing their feedback on our store and products. In person we are able to share in their excitement of the occasion that they are celebrating. Extending the personalised interaction to the Pop Up Park with events that allow us to interact with the community like the Rainbows and Unicorns Party that we were the ambassador for last year.

What does the phrase “inspired inclusion” mean to you?

Inclusion for all regardless of age, background, skill set or disability.

Who are some other women in your community that inspire you?

My mum who passed in 2021 was a massive inspiration and a supporter of me opening this store.

My teenage daughter who shows that kindness begins from within and to always think the best of everyone.

My staff who treat every customer with the utmost respect and the business as if it’s their own.

What advice would you give to other women who may be looking to open their own business?

Don’t wonder what could have been DO IT. See roadblocks as ways to learn not boundaries to stopping you. Use your skills from professional and personal life as they are transferable even if the business is in a new field. Grow slowly, be patient and build a loyal authentic team around you.

The next time you’re heading into Stockland Point Cook, say hello to Amanda and tell them about some of the women who inspire you. Happy International Women’s Day!
