While there are a lot of different national holidays and days of recognition to acknowledge over the year, National Burger Day is one that’s not to be missed. Every year, May 28th marks the day to celebrate the juicy, flavourful deliciousness that is the humble burger. 

According to New York Magazine, the invention of the hamburger is credited to Louis Lassen and dates back as far as 1900. While operating his New Haven eatery, ‘Louis’ Lunch’, Louis’ customers would frequently request something “quick and delicious”. Answering their prayers, Louis created the first burger—ground beef between two pieces of toasted bread. The burger quickly exploded in popularity, and there’s no doubting why!

This year, celebrate burger day by donning your stretchiest pants and sink your teeth into a tender burger (or two) with a side of fries. Enjoy a burger at your favourite café or restaurant, or make your own at home. If you’re in the office for National Burger Day, get a group of colleagues together who’re keen to celebrate with you and order together. If you can, make an occasion of it. Bring a picnic rug to work and head to a local park to devour your burgers while enjoying the great outdoors. Celebrating the day with friends or colleagues doesn’t mean you have to share though, make sure you order plenty for everyone!
