50,000 reasons for Gold Coast local Louise to smile
Halcyon is thrilled to announce, Louise Pickup of Arundel ‘picked up’ a $50,000 prize after entering Halcyon’s Do It Your Way competition, open exclusively for baby boomers.
Louise had the option to choose between three incredible prizes: a caravan valued at $57,950, gold bullion valued at $50,000 or a bucket-list European holiday worth $50,000.
Surprised while playing golf at the Southport Golf Club with friends, Louise chose to walk away with the $50,000 gold bullion to put towards her and husband Ray’s retirement.
Louise said she had “never won a thing in her life, not even a meat raffle.”
Louise’s win proves you can win big bucks entering local competitions, with the odds better in your favour than that of national competitions.
“I have rarely even entered competitions until now,” Louise said.
“I can’t believe we won by simply entering a form and saying why we think it would be great to live in a lifestyle community.
“The win will go nicely towards our retirement, and maybe a little holiday in 2020,” Louise said.
With Halcyon’s Do It Your Way competition being solely open to over 50s, Louise had a one in 2,000 chance of winning.
That’s 2,000 times better than winning the national lotto which stacks up to a one in 3,838,380 chance.
Halcyon Joint Managing Director, Dr Bevan Geissmann said Halcyon ran the competition to get people thinking about the great living options available in south-east Queensland for downsizing.
“Baby boomers are redefining retirement and choosing how they want to retire so we obviously wanted to give the choice in the prize they might win,” Dr Geissmann said.
“Lifestyle communities are one of the fastest-growing housing segments in southeast Queensland for over 50s and the best entries in the competition really summed up the benefits of living at a lifestyle community such as no entry and exit fees, social activities and an array of facilities,” Dr Geissmann said.
Halcyon is one of Australia’s most awarded lifestyle community which features resort-style facilities, architecturally designed homes and a range of physical and social activities.
