With a little help from our friends: Donations top $1.5m

Giving Back
September 10, 2021

Halcyon homeowners marked a generous milestone this month, donating $1.5 million to local charitable causes through its Friends of Halcyon Referral Program since 2004, including $52,000 this year alone.

Halcyon is one of Australia’s most-awarded lifestyle community developers, a trusted leader in building the future of over 50s living in Australia and committed to giving back to the wider community through its Friends of Halcyon Referral Program.

When a homeowner refers a friend to Halcyon who buys a new or established home, Halcyon thanks the homeowner with $1500 and a $500 donation to a charity of their choice.

The Friends of Halcyon Referral Luncheon was held at Victoria Park Golf Club on Wednesday 1 September, attended by more than 150 homeowners, buyers, referrers and staff.

They were joined by DV Connect CEO Beck O’Connor and The Smith Family Queensland General Manager Alan LeMay, who were presented with their donation cheques.

The Friends of Halcyon Referral Program began in 2004 with Jim Baxter, a homeowner at Halcyon Parks, the first Halcyon community to open.

Jim introduced three of his friends to the community and Halcyon donated to Cystic Fibrosis in support of Jim’s grandson who had the illness.

Since then, Halcyon has maintained its commitment to charitable works, supporting hundreds of charities and worthy causes selected by homeowners including the formation of Toy Boys, who make Christmas gifts for children, and the provision of two rooms at Ronald McDonald House.

Halcyon also shares a strong relationship with DV Connect, one of this year’s beneficiaries.

In 2019, Halcyon collaborated with property group Mirvac to fund, design, build and donate the purpose-built Bella’s Sanctuary in Pimpama as bridging accommodation for survivors of domestic violence.
