Community Manager Donna talks about community living

Community living offers a unique atmosphere with numerous opportunities to stay active and try new things – perhaps joining a pottery class, learning a new skill, or getting fitter.

The best part of my role as a community manager is witnessing the enjoyment our homeowners experience and observing new friendships form. Many have dedicated much of their lives to work and now relish the time to relax, travel with new friends, and live the life they've always dreamed of. Halcyon delivers that and more. I eagerly anticipate living here myself."

What are the first few months like at Stockland Halcyon?

Moving into a community can be daunting, especially where established relationships exist. Fortunately, homeowners in your street understand this feeling, as they're often just as new to community living. This common ground helps form fast friendships with supportive neighbours.

Wanting to be a good neighbour, how do I learn the dos and don'ts?

Before moving in, numerous discussions about visitors, using the Rec Club, pets, etc., occur, offering ample opportunity to ask questions. A handy booklet, "Community Living Guidelines," is provided upon reserving a home.

I've moved in, how do I join in?

You'll receive a list of interest groups and contacts and training on the homeowner website to keep up with daily activities. There's no pressure; homeowners pursue interests at their own pace, embodying Halcyon's motto: "take it on or take it easy."

How can I find out what's happening?

The homeowner website features a live events calendar and detailed information. I send weekly emails updating everyone on community happenings, new interest groups, and upcoming special events. With 38 interest groups at Halcyon Lakeside, the only complaint is the lack of time to do everything!

How do you meet people?

New arrivals are advised to allow time when collecting mail, as many homeowners will stop to chat and introduce themselves. Happy Hours, interest groups, and street parties are excellent ways to meet others.

Is there a 'buddy system' for newcomers?

Yes. We provide buddies for new homeowners, whether shy, new to the area, or alone. Buddies, experienced in community life, help newcomers feel comfortable at social events, often becoming close friends.

Encouraging use of leisure facilities

I reassure new homeowners there's no rush. Settling in takes time, so there's no need to rush participation. We tailor activities to your pace, offering introductions to various facilities, like a free gym session, joining a craft group, or participating in a quiz night.
