Butcher finds success in new shop during peak of pandemic

04 August 2020

Boocock’s Quality Meats, new local butcher at Stockland Birtinya, opened up shop on 15 June – in the middle of the COVID crisis – yet has found success with support from the local community.

Marcus Boocock, owner of Boocock’s Quality Meats, said: “The unpredictability of COVID has made opening a new business very different to the norm, and at times during the process, more complicated. But I have been very fortunate and grateful that our industry hasn’t been too hard hit compared to others.

“Our community has been very positive and supportive which I am extremely appreciative of. We already have a few regulars who come in every week to say g’day, all of whom we enjoy seeing.

“Stockland has been a massive help. I’ve received so much help and guidance from setting up in-store, to promotions and sharing government updated on being COVID Safe.”

Mr Boocock previously owned a butcher shop in Noosa, but moved more locally to be closer to family.

“I live locally, and community has always been important to me and my family. So, it made sense to bring my passion closer to home. We have a nice, close-knit and supportive community here, so it was definitely the right move,” he said.

Shane Monro, Centre Manager at Stockland Birtinya, said that Stockland endeavours to support retailers and the community in any ways it can.

“We want to see our retailers succeed.

“We also want to equip them with the right tools in order to find that success, and ensure that they feel supported by our team.

“It’s been inspiring to see Mr Boocock take any challenges thrown his way head on and with such a positive attitude.

“His butcher shop has been a great addition to our retail offering here at Stockland Birtinya and the community more widely, and we look forward to seeing him grow in the years to come.”
