CLOVERTON BOULEVARD BRIDGE STARTS CONSTRUCTION

Stockland today announced the start of construction for the Cloverton Boulevard Bridge, connecting Klandy Drive and Donnybrook Road. The bridge will help to ease congestion and improve traffic flow for current and future residents by providing a secondary access point to the Cloverton community.

Cloverton Boulevard Bridge, which will cost approximately $16 million, is being funded by Stockland in partnership with Hume City Council and Whittlesea Council and follows the State Government’s recent announcement of $6 million of funding to upgrade the Mitchell Street roundabout in Kalkallo.

At 390 metres long, the Cloverton Boulevard Bridge will cross the Merri Creek conservation reserve and has been designed to minimise impact on the reserve, acknowledging and respecting its cultural heritage and environmental significance.

Stockland Project Director, James Westh, said: “We’re pleased to have started works on the Cloverton Boulevard Bridge, which will be a key piece of road infrastructure that meets the needs of the growing community.

“Together with the State Government’s recent announcement to upgrade the Mitchell Street roundabout, these projects will help to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow for around 7,000 residents travelling to and from work, schools, and nearby shops.

“The design of the bridge – with clear space between bridge piers and culverts every 50 metres – ensures minimal disturbance and prioritises the protection of the Merri Creek conservation reserve.

“We understand the importance of the bridge to the community, which will enhance the connectivity and liveability of our residents.”

The bridge will provide the community with two-way car access, paths for pedestrian and cyclist access, and future bus connections. Its architectural detailing remains consistent with existing Cloverton design, seeking to celebrate the natural values, colours, and textures of the adjoining waterway environment.

State Member for Yuroke, the Hon. Ros Spence MP, said: “I’m so pleased that both the Cloverton Boulevard Bridge and the Mitchell Street roundabout upgrade are taking place.

“Together, these two projects will really help alleviate the traffic pressure in Kalkallo and save residents travel time.”

The Cloverton Boulevard Bridge is a project of the Development Contributions Plan (DCP) Works in Kind agreement with Hume City Council. Planning and approvals for the bridge has involved close collaboration with Hume City Council; the City of Whittlesea; the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning; the Department of Transport; and Melbourne Water.

Cloverton Boulevard Bridge is expected to be complete in mid-2024, subject to weather conditions.
