Construction starts on North Shores new childcare centre

15 June 2020

Construction has officially commenced on a new $3.5 million childcare centre in Stockland’s North Shore community. The purpose-built centre, which will have a licensed capacity for 124 children, is planned to be run by Green Leaves Early Learning.

Set to be completed in late 2020, the centre will be open for children aged six weeks to six years and will feature eight spacious learning hubs, interactive technology and an in-house chef.

The centre adds to North Shores’ educational precinct, which already includes two childcare centres and three schools.

Andrew Astorquia, Project Director at Stockland said the construction marked the next step in catering for the growing community.

“North Shore is committed to delivering key community facilities and infrastructure within walking distance of residents homes. We’re thrilled to start construction on our third childcare centre in the community and look forward to welcoming families later this year,” Mr Astorquia said.

Strategically located in the heart of the community on the corner of Synnove Drive and Rockingham Drive, the childcare centre will be positioned next door to North Shore State School and will have 1,540 square metres of outdoor play area with various shade structures. On-site parking will also be available.

The centre will also be walking distance to North Shore’s latest land releases in the Sunhaven and Discovery villages.

Mark McDonald-Smith, CEO of Green Leaves Early Learning said the privately-owned business was excited to have its newest centre call North Shore home.

“Our purpose is to provide early education and care that exceeds traditional standards. We’re excited to bring our passionate and professional team to the North Shore community,” Mr McDonald-Smith said.

Located just 13 kilometres from Townsville’s CBD, North Shore is conveniently designed to ensure schools, shopping, dining, parks, bushland trails and transport networks are just a short walk from home.

The new centre will form part of North Shore's growing education precinct, with North Shore State School and St Clare’s Catholic Primary School catering to students from Prep to Grade 6, and Townsville Grammar from Prep to Grade 12. Meanwhile, a wealth of additional schooling is nearby, including the world-class James Cook University.
