Maybrook Village encourages seniors to develop IT factor in Northern Beaches

09 August 2019

Local seniors in the Northern Beaches and beyond are invited to Maybrook Retirement Village on Wednesday, 14 August to learn the ‘IT’ factor – that is, I.T.

As part of the Be Connected program, seniors will be offered the opportunity to increase their confidence and skills when using the internet and everyday technology.

Fiona Russell, Village Manager at Maybrook Retirement Village, said that the Tech Savvy Retirees event will be a fun and engaging way for seniors to improve their computer literacy.

“The internet provides a great way to connect with family and the community which is especially important for retirees.

“We want to empower seniors to use technology confidently, and ultimately, make a positive impact in their lives.

“We hope that local seniors will learn and appreciate the value of being connected online and gain the confidence and skills needed to continue using digital technologies.”

Both Maybrook residents and seniors across the community will be ‘left to their own devices’, with a focus on learning how to online shop and bank, as well as navigate the MyGov website.

Jan Carruthers, resident at Maybrook Retirement Village, said that the program will be most beneficial for herself and others who are looking to improve their tech skills and knowledge.

“I think I’m most looking forward to learning how to navigate MyGov and be able to ask questions of someone who knows a lot about I.T.”

The Tech Savvy Retirees event will be held on Wednesday, 14 August from 10.30am to 1pm at the Maybrook Retirement Village. Seniors will also have the opportunity to tour the village and speak with staff and residents about what life is like living at a Stockland village. Booking* is required and spots are limited.
