New lakeside park opens at Bokarina Beach

17 April 2019

An exciting new lakeside park which is set to become an important recreational destination for families has opened at Stockland’s Bokarina Beach community on the Sunshine Coast.

The beautifully landscaped park is the first stage of Lake Square, an expansive recreational space which will straddle the edge of the hectare Lake Kawana extension into Bokarina Beach and create a landmark entry into the community.

Mark McMahon, Senior Development Manager at Stockland, said the park, which opened at the weekend, incorporated a wooden pier as well as a new centrepiece public square with a long table and sheltered barbecue facilities designed to be used for gatherings and community events.

“We are proud to open the first stage of Lake Square, which will allow public access to the lake extension and is a signature feature for our new community,’’ Mr McMahon said.

“The creation of the lake, which is equivalent to 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools, has been a significant undertaking and we are delighted that residents will now be able to enjoy the ambience of this idyllic setting.

“The park, which also features pedestrian and cycle paths as well as terraced seating and grassed sections to the edge of the lake, is an outstanding addition to our new world-class community.’’

When complete, a total of 1.8 hectares of parkland surrounding the lake is planned to incorporate a beach on the northern side offering a launch area for paddle boards and kayaks, as well as shaded and seating areas.

The park opening is one of two new milestones for the community. The other is an underpass which will open on Good Friday on 19 April and is part of a $19 million project being undertaken by Stockland to upgrade the Nicklin Way and Lake Kawana Boulevard intersection to improve traffic flow in the area.

“We are creating a wealth of facilities at Bokarina Beach for residents to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle,’’ Mr McMahon said.

“The parkland is part of that vision as well as the underpass, which will be part of a network of paths creating the opportunity for safe, environmentally-friendly travel.’’

Set on 30 hectares, Bokarina Beach is a hive of construction activity with the

community preparing to welcome its first residents later this year following the recent commencement of construction on the first homes.

Bokarina Beach is a premium mixed-use residential, retail and community hub planned to include approximately 160 home sites, 130 terrace homes and 800 beachside and north facing park-front apartments.
