Stockland Baldivis completes redevelopment

14 May 2015

Stockland today officially opened the final stage of its $116 million redevelopment and expansion of Stockland Baldivis Shopping Centre. The centre is now four times its original size, at 29,500 square metres, providing customers with a bigger, better shopping experience.

Local, national and international retailers have seized the opportunity to set up shop in the new Stockland centre, which is located in the heart of the fastest growing suburb in Australia with a current population of 27,000 residents and increasing at a rate of 15 per cent per annumi. The centre opens fully leased and features a full-line Coles, full-line Woolworths, Kmart, Best&Less, Red Dot and 95
speciality stores, including brands such as Dick Smith, Smiggle, Lorna Jane, Hairhouse Warehouse and Specsavers. The last few remaining shop fit outs are underway and on track to open in the coming weeks.

Fresh food and delicious fast casual dining are an integral part of the new Stockland Baldivis Shopping Centre experience. Today, customers enjoyed their first taste of Woolworths’ new store-within-a-store concept with the supermarket incorporating a New York-inspired barista café and fresh pizza bar.

The food precinct also stars local heroes RJ Quality Meats, Five Seasons Fresh grocer and Bakers Delight. An exotic, international line-up of market-style street food vendors are also ready to treat hungry shoppers to a tasty meal in the  275-seat indoor and outdoor casual dining terrace. Today’s grand opening also included the provision of an additional 400 car parking spaces taking the total to 1,350 bays.

New and exciting entertainment, leisure and nightlife options are also coming soon, with five new restaurants to be added to the Settlers Avenue dining and entertainment precinct, including Brotzeit German Bier Bar and Restaurant and a yet-to-be-named wine bar. A Timezone family entertainment centre is located on the top floor of the entertainment and leisure precinct.

Stockland Baldivis is located in the City of Rockingham, 45 kilometres south of the Perth CBD. The centre is in the heart of Stockland’s masterplanned community, which incorporates its Settlers Hill residential community and the award-winning Affinity Retirement Village.

John Schroder, Group Executive and CEO Commercial Property at Stockland, said: “We’ve listened to the community from the inception of our planning process to ensure the new Stockland Baldivis would be much more than a place to shop; it’s a place for friends and family to meet, eat, socialise and enjoy.

“In addition to creating and delivering the best retail, restaurants, cafes, entertainment and nightlife in the region, we’ve incorporated an abundance of open, inviting community spaces and a new, inclusive playground.

“We’ve had an incredible response from local residents and retailers who are excited and delighted to have a first class retail destination in their own backyard.”

The $116 million project has created 450 local jobs during construction and 800 retail, hospitality and customer service jobs in perpetuity. The redevelopment and expansion of the centre will continue to inject millions of dollars into the local and regional economy through direct commerce and associated service and supply industries.

City of Rockingham Mayor, Barry Sammels, said: “Baldivis was recently named by the ABS as the fastest growing suburb in Australia, and its population is forecast to grow by 166 per cent by 2021. The expansion of the Stockland Baldivis Shopping Centre has come at exactly the right time for the existing residents and will provide a high quality retail precinct for future customers.”

Stockland’s $116 million investment demonstrates its confidence in the economic prospects for the major growth corridors north and south of Perth. Stockland has recently announced a $51 million project to create a new 12,200 square metre Harrisdale shopping centre within its $661 million, 2600-lot Stockland Newhaven residential community, 20 kilometres south-east of the Perth CBD. In total, Stockland is planning to invest $1.1 billion in and around Perth over the next five years and will continue to develop more retail centres, logistics centres and masterplanned residential communities.

As another mark of the project’s success and quality of its design, Stockland Baldivis has achieved a 4 Star Green Star Rating (Retail Centre Design v1) accredited by the Green Building Council of Australia.
