Stockland, one of Australia’s largest diversified property groups, was joined by the City of Geelong and future residents today to mark the start of construction at Stockland Banksia, a $193 million community at Armstrong Creek.
Located 10.4 kilometres from Geelong’s CBD, the 30-hectare community will comprise approximately 500 homes and a new proposed childcare centre. Construction is now underway on the early civil works to prepare the site for residents to build their new homes, which are expected to start from August 2023.
Stockland Project Director, Ed Krushka said: “We are thrilled to be starting construction at Stockland Banksia and share the start of the journey to create a new community at Armstrong Creek with Council and residents.
“Geelong is one of the fastest growing regional corridors in Australia, and Stockland Banksia in Armstrong Creek will help to meet the strong demand from homebuyers seeking a low-density coastal lifestyle yet with great connections to the cities of Geelong and Melbourne.
“It is an exciting time to be creating new communities in the Geelong area, which also includes our new land lease community in Curlewis, contributing to a region that boasts a beautiful natural environment and quality infrastructure and services,” said Mr Krushka.
There has been significant infrastructure investment in Geelong including a new ferry terminal, significant road upgrades and completion of the Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Future residents will be able to access the Melbourne CBD via the Geelong Ring Road, which has an entry point 6.9 kilometres from Stockland Banksia, or by train from Waurn Ponds and Marshall stations.
Greater Geelong Deputy Mayor Trent Sullivan, Bellarine Ward said: “Council is excited to see construction kick off at Stockland Banksia. As a community, we are looking forward to welcoming new residents to the area and seeing what opportunities are created from the Stockland community.”
Hari Krishna Nadipelly joined Stockland and City of Geelong today to mark the start of construction of their future community and said: “Our family is looking forward to becoming future residents of Stockland Banksia, and joining the Armstrong Creek community. We cannot wait to see our future neighbourhood take shape.”
Stockland Banksia has block sizes available from 319 to 520 square metres, with prices starting from $317,000 for a 319 square metre block of land. The community will see thoughtfully planned and considered home designs that complement the local and natural environment.
Homes will be situated on tree-lined streets, and the community will feature a generous, re-vegetated waterway, to help protect local wildlife and bushland. Stockland Banksia is named after the native silver Banksia wildflower, Indigenous to some coastal areas of Geelong.
In May 2022, Stockland announced the acquisition of a 26.12-hectare site in Curlewis where it plans to submit a masterplan for a land lease community (LLC) for over 50s including approximately 325 land lease homes and 100 residential homes.
