Stockland teams up with Cricket Victoria to take cricket to growth suburbs

17 June 2016

Cricket is pushing into Melbourne’s booming growth corridors, ensuring first-class facilities are available to everyone who wants to pick up a bat and ball.

Victoria’s peak cricket body, Cricket Victoria, and Australia’s largest residential property developer, Stockland, have formed a ground-breaking partnership to help build new cricket facilities and increase the number of people participating in the sport.

Cricket Victoria and Stockland will promote diversity and inclusion through the Harmony in Cricket program, which celebrates cricket as a game for everyone regardless of cultural background, religion, gender, age or ability.

The partnership will also encourage healthy, active lifestyles in some of Melbourne’s newest communities.

Mike Davis, General Manager Residential for Victoria at Stockland, and Tony Dodemaide, Chief Executive Officer at Cricket Victoria, said they were excited to be working together to grow the number of people playing cricket throughout Melbourne.

“Stockland is thrilled to be teaming up with Cricket Victoria in this exciting new partnership,” Mr Davis said.

“Our communities will be home to thousands of new families and each of them might have a budding cricketer keen to play,” he said.

“We are looking forward to helping deliver world-class sporting facilities at our new communities and we are keen to help our residents become engaged in community cricket and supporting their local clubs.”

Stockland will sponsor Cricket Victoria’s Harmony in Cricket program that promotes the message that anyone with a passion for cricket has a place in the sport.

"Cricket Victoria believes everybody, regardless of their gender, race or ability, should feel welcome to play cricket,” Mr Dodemaide said.

“Our partnership with Stockland will give people in our newest communities access to fantastic cricket facilities and help grow participation in the sport,” he said.

“The camaraderie that is developed on the field really does help foster harmony, respect and understanding of each other.”

Stockland and Cricket Victoria will launch their partnership at the MCG on Friday, 17 June.

Buyers at Stockland’s two newest Melbourne communities will be able to play cricket with the stars as Stockland and Cricket Victoria celebrate their partnership on June 18 and 19.

Victorian cricketers Fawad Ahmed and Molly Strano will be at The Grove at Tarneit to play cricket with future residents on Saturday, 18 June.

At Cloverton, at Kalkallo in Melbourne’s north, cricketers Aaron Ayre and Emma Inglis will play cricket with the residents on Sunday, 19 June. It will be the first chance for buyers to walk their new land at Cloverton, the largest master planned community ever developed in Victoria.

Stockland is building seven new communities in Melbourne. In the north are Cloverton at Kalkallo, Highlands at Craigieburn, Mernda Villages at Mernda and Eucalypt at Wollert. In the west are The Grove at Tarneit, Allura at Truganina and The Address at Point Cook.
