Some of Western Australia’s top lawn bowlers will compete in the inaugural Stockland Halcyon Cup at Leeming Bowling Club next month.

With a net total prize pool of $17,000, it will be one of the biggest lawn bowling events in WA.

Stockland Communities Project Director Andrew Wallis said they’re thrilled to be involved with the event, which will be held on the weekend of 23rd to 24th September.

“We’ve had a long relationship with the Leeming Bowling Club, and we are proud to be supporting this event as part of our commitment to the local community,” Mr Wallis said.

42 mixed gender teams have entered the event, including a team led by WA ‘Hall of Fame’ recipient, Therese Hastings.

Leeming Bowling Club Director of Partnerships Jim Hastings said Ms Hastings (who is his sister-in-law) will be joined by some of the state’s youngest bowling talent, including 21-year-old Jack East, 14-year-old Callum Alberti and Ryan Brown, who is in his early 30’s.

“The team is high performing - Therese has won everything there is to win in WA bowling, Jack is already on the upward trajectory with his bowls as part of the Bowls Australia Pathway Program in WA, and Callum is an outstanding under 18 player.”

Ms Hastings said she was looking forward to the event next month and sharing her experience.

“These are great young people, very skilful and I’m delighted to be on the green competing with them,” she said.

Another great of the game, state player Linda Warburton – who has a passion for coaching – has teamed up with a fellow south-west bowler, Calvin Rodgers.

Calvin is a current WA Para Pathway Player in the visually impaired category.

“Everyone loves to watch Calvin play. He is a great bowler, and an inspiration,” Mr Hastings said.

“Linda’s husband Ross and fellow bowler and friend David Goddard join Linda and Calvin, to make up their team of four and I have no doubt will attract a big crowd of spectators on the weekend.

“Whether you are a bowler or not, we would love you to come down and witness some WA competitive bowling action and enjoy our facilities.”

The Leeming Bowling Club is located in Dimond Court, Leeming and the competition will commence at 11am Saturday 23 September and 8:30am on Sunday 24 September 2023.
