Putting a smile on their faces can be as easy as doing a quick neighbourhood door-knock, chalk in hand and asking some of the other families in the street to continue the footprint trail down the path. Take the excitement to the next level by grabbing some cotton wool and wedging a little bit of it in the fence. The kids will think the Easter Bunny lost its tail.
Decorated eggs and Easter go hand-in-hand and there is no easier way to celebrate the season than with a DIY egg decorating station. Get the neighbourhood kiddies involved and simply grab some store-bought eggs, a straw (to blow out the yolk), craft paint and various decorations like sequins. Attach a piece of twine to the decorated eggs and let the kids hang them in the trees or bushes in their front yard. A simple and fun way to bring life to your street!
While the bunny footprints may incite joy in the little ones, this indulgent Easter recipe will certainly spark excitement in the adults. This celebration wouldn’t be the same without a tasty chocolate treat and Rocky Road is the perfect one to share with your neighbours and satisfy their sweet tooth.
INGREDIENTS
400g dark chocolate, chopped
1 ¼ x 250g packets assorted chocolate mini Easter eggs
100g packet mini marshmallows
¾ (100g) pistachio kernels, toasted
1 ¼ cups (150g) dried cranberries
10 sponge finger biscuits, chopped
METHOD
1. Grease a 6cm-deep, 20cm (base) square cake pan. Line base and sides of pan with baking paper, allowing 2cm overhang on all sides.
2. Place chocolate in a heatproof, microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high (100%) for two to three minutes, stirring every 30 seconds with a metal spoon, or until smooth. Set aside to cool for 20 minutes.
3. Place marshmallows, pistachios, cranberries, biscuits and half the eggs in a bowl. Add chocolate. Stir gently to combine. Spoon mixture into prepared pan. Press with the back of a spoon to level. Lightly press remaining eggs into top. Cover. Refrigerate for two hours or overnight, if time permits.
4. Remove rocky road from pan. Cut into 25 pieces. Serve.
