Wollongong City Council Rock Pools*
These picturesque swimming spots are iconic to the NSW coastline and the perfect place to swim a few laps or cool off on a hot day. The Illawarra region is teeming with rock pools, and your future home at Forest Reach will be a great diving off point to explore the nine rock pools located within the Wollongong City Council area. Best enjoyed at low tide, explore the pools and find your favourite. Remember there is no lifeguard service at rock pools so exercise caution.
Looking for a slightly bigger pool?? Lake Illawarra is 9.5 kilometres long and 5.5 kilometres wide and home to 13 boat ramps, a public art trail, bird habitats, a ninja playground, BBQ areas and of course, water sports galore! Go fishing, prawning, stand-up paddleboarding, water skiing, kayaking and snorkelling in this spectacular aquatic playground.
The Warrawong Markets* – (17-minute drive from Forest Reach)
After spending a couple of high-energy hours on Lake Illawarra, you’ll need to refuel. Make your way to the Warrawong Markets located on the shores of the lake and sample local farm produce, fresh seafood, international cuisines, and delicious baked goods. Grab a seat on the grass and soak up the atmosphere of this bustling market. The Warrawong Markets operate every Saturday, 7am – 1pm.
Windang Beach* – (24-minute drive from Forest Reach)
At the entrance to Lake Illawarra, you’ll find Windang Beach – the perfect spot for a family BBQ. The large foreshore offers patrolled beach swimming, (10am -5pm daily) sheltered picnic areas, a playground and a shared cycle path. Sizzle some sausages and take in the beauty of the Five Islands Nature Reserve sitting just off the coast.
Surfing the Breaks* – (23-minute drive from Forest Reach)
Spend the summers surfing (or taking lessons!) at some of the most beautiful beaches on the southern NSW coastline. The Killalea Reserve is a designated National Surfing Reserve featuring two famous breaks at Killalea Beach (known as ‘The Farm’) and Minnamurra Beach (known as ‘Mystics’). Located a short 23-minute drive from your new home at Forest Reach, zip down the highway to enjoy a glorious sunrise surf, a quick smoothie and still make it home in time for your virtual morning meeting.
