With Stockland Aura celebrating its 7th birthday this year, we caught up with Kristy to find out more about her role supporting the family-owned business that has been serving the Caloundra community since 1977 and is now operating from their Baringa location in Aura.

What is your current role with John Wallace Swim School?
I am the Owner/Director of the John Wallace Swim School, located within Stockland Baringa Shopping Centre.

What do you love most about your job?
Being a part of a community of families where I can witness their children grow, not only as confident swimmers but also throughout their childhood. As I have been in this industry for over 20 years, I have had the pleasure of building so many amazing relationships with local families. I have even had several students that I taught myself, now come and work as an instructor for my team.

If you had to describe your job using emojis what would you choose?
It would have to be the swimming emoji of course! 🏊 🏊 🏊

When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your spare time / what are your passions?
Family time! I have 2 children, aged 11 and 8 and they keep my husband and I very busy with sport and social events. I also like to keep myself active and catch up with friends.

If you could have 7 extra hours in a day, how would you spend them?
I would most probably add more swimming lessons first! Then add in some more family time and a little extra ‘me time’.

What does “community” mean to you?
This community allows myself and my team to create an environment where our families can trust that their children are being taught lifesaving skills by experienced and passionate instructors. It also allows us to build strong relationships with our families that will carry throughout their growing years.

Are there any local organisations or initiatives that you are passionate about or admire?
The John Wallace Swim School is part of many initiatives that we incorporate into our learning program. Things like, ‘Pyjama Week’ raising money and awareness for the Pyjama Foundation. ‘Swim Safer Week’ creating awareness on the importance of water safety by implementing survival and rescue scenarios during their swimming lesson.

What do you love most about the Aura community?
Since opening my doors in early 2021 and being one of the first businesses to open in Baringa, I’ve been blown away with how many community minded events Stockland have created for the local families. It really bonds the community together and I feel very fortunate to be a part of it.
