Providence residents rally together to officially name much-loved neighbourhood parks.

Stockland’s Providence locals put their thinking caps on and got creative to officially name beloved neighbourhood parks, with a new park named this week. Located in Wyperfeld Crescent, Rascals Park is the latest in a trio of parks named by the Providence community.

Residents affectionately named each park based on its unique features and design and Rascals Park was inspired by Providence’s littlest Ripley Valley basketballers – The Little Rascals. The name received an overwhelming number of entries via its online naming portal, where residents voted for their favourite name.

The playground and park features versatile play equipment ranging from a basketball swing, net climber and double slide and includes nature-inspired tactile play pieces like stepping stones, dry creek bed crossings and adventure stairs. Paired with green spaces and shelters, residents of all ages and abilities can relish in the park’s offerings while basking in the sunshine of the Providence area.

South Ripley locals also named another two of Providence much-loved community parks, Treehouse Park and Gumnut Park. Located on Greenview Avenue, kids of all ages and abilities can marvel at the Treehouse Park’s fort, slide and swings, or play a game of netball or basketball on the half court and hoops. Providence’s younger residents can also enjoy Gumnut Park’s hillside slide and explore its one-of-a-kind gumnut hut and outdoor ping pong table located on the corner of Popran Chase and Heathcote Street.

So many residents are passionate about their community, suggesting names and voting! Treehouse Park and Gumnut Park have become community staples. We’re so pleased to see our residents band together and get creative to give these playgrounds names that resonate with the whole community.”

Providence residents Cheryl and Matt started the Little Rascals Basketball Club in 2019, and were thrilled to have the club’s name a permanent fixture within the Providence community. “We adore the names the community picked, particularly Rascals park of course, what an honour! It will make it really easy to arrange playdates and catch up with neighbours now parks have their official names!”
