If this sounds like the kind of DIY Christmas gift idea you’ve been looking for, then you’re in luck! We’ve got a recipe for delicious DIY-stained glass biscuit Christmas tree baubles that will certainly put a smile on your friends and families’ faces. Keep reading to find out what you’ll need to create these scrumptious gifts for your nearest and dearest this Christmas!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 cup butter

  • 1 egg

  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla essence

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • Boiled lollies

  • Baking paper

  • Cling wrap

  • Baking tray

  • Mixing spoon

  • Rolling pin

  • Mixing bowl

  • Chopping board

  • 1 large and 1 small cookie cutter (we got ours from Kmart)

  • String or ribbon

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt and baking powder.

Step 2

Soften the butter in the microwave and add the sugar to the melted butter. Mix well until the butter and sugar are blended together.

Step 3

Add the egg and vanilla essence to the butter and sugar, then mix.

Step 4

Add the butter mixture to the flour mixture and mix until a dough is formed. Wrap the dough in cling wrap and leave in the fridge to cool for 30 minutes.

Step 5

While the dough is cooling, pour the boiled lollies into a bowl and crush them with the end of your rolling pin. You can also do this in a large mortar and pestle! Once the lollies are crushed into small chunks, put them aside.

Step 6

Take the dough out of the fridge and place it onto a floured chopping board. Add flour to your rolling pin and roll out your dough until it is 1cm thick.

Step 7

Using your large cookie cutter, cut biscuits out of your dough and set aside. Use your small cookie cutter to cut a hole out of the middle of your biscuits and place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

Step 8

Fill the small holes inside your biscuits with your crushed boiled lollies, making sure the lollies are level with your biscuits. Place your biscuits in the oven for 10 minutes or until golden brown.

Hot tip: you can also bake your biscuits in an air-fryer! Pre-heat your air-fryer to 180 degrees Celsius and once hot, place your biscuits into your air-fryer for 5 minutes.

Step 9

Take your biscuits out of the oven and leave to cool. Once cooled, create a hole at the top of your cookies and thread your string through the hole. Then you’re done!

There you have it, delicious Christmas tree baubles that don’t just look good, but taste good too! Wrap them up and give them to your family and friends so they can display them on their own Christmas trees and then, once the festivities come to an end, instead of popping them in a box with all their other Christmas decorations, they’ll be able to eat them with their favourite cup of tea! How good is that?!
