As we move further into the spring summer fashion season, the colour-blocking trend is popping up more and more, whether it be on the runways of major fashion shows, magazines or on your Instagram feed. Colour-blocking is defined as an outfit made head-to-toe out of one solid colour. Here at Stockland, we’re obsessed with this trend. We’ve discovered this season’s biggest colour trends and how you can make them work for you. This trend can look intimidating on the surface but, styling a solid colour is actually a lot simpler than it looks. We’ll walk you through all the do’s and don’ts as well as all the reasons why you’ll fall in love with this trend before the season’s out.
First of all, it’s just plain fun! Colour-blocking is a great opportunity to make a statement in eye-catching, bold colours. If you enjoy turning a head or two, this is the ideal trend to express the fun and frivolous side to your personality. Donning a bright colour will have you looking (and more importantly), feeling confident. Yellow is the perfect colour for showing off your fun and playful nature. The colour of joy, optimism and youth, this colour is a classic for summer and we love seeing it hit the shelves this year. When donning yellow, shade is key. If your skin and hair colour lean on the darker side, be bold in a bright tone. If you’re a bit fairer, head towards mustard or deeper tones of yellow. Yellow can be a little over-energizing as a colour, so utilise prints to your advantage to break up your aesthetic, while still achieving your mellow yellow ensemble! Finish your look with gold and straw accents in your jewellery and accessories.

Cohesion is abig plus when it comes to colour-blocking your fashion. When all of your colours are the same, there’s no need to worry about clashing or conflicting elements. Another added bonus, stores typically bring out multiple pieces in the same colour and/or print, meaning it’s a one-stop-shop for a complete outfit! We love seeing the matching sets that are coming out this year, whether it be a suit or even a skirt and top combo, they make for an easy-to-put-together cohesive outfit. Blue is set to be a popular colour trend this season, particularly pastel and powder blue shades. Associated with blue skies and soft seas, this colour brings a sense of calm and serenity. Relaxed and tranquil, this a great colour for your day wear or more casual affairs. One of the benefits of blue is that it’s one of the easiest colours to style as most shades of blue can be worn by anyone, regardless of hair and skin colour. When colour-blocking blue, you can also incorporate denim into your outfit –
just make sure you keep it all to one shade. We’re loving the throwback to 90s-styled denim with cut off shorts and denim shoes!

Now if bright colours aren’t quite your cup of tea, have no fear, colour-blocking can still work for you. Although summer is the season for statements, you can achieve something just as chic with a shade that is a little more subdued. One of the up and coming colour crushes for summer are these beautiful rusty reds. Caught somewhere between the orange and brown side of the colour wheel, this shade is ideal for people who feel a bright yellow or pink might be a little too intense for them. These scotched earth tones suit our Aussie sense of style perfectly. Warm and earthy, this shade exudes a relaxed luxury with a bohemian edge. This colour lends itself to a variety of different people, you may just have to tweak the shade slightly to suit your features. Lighter skin should opt for an orange or brown undertone, whereas darker skin can lean more towards the red or pink side of the spectrum. When it comes to this colour trend, we’re in love with the relaxed day dresses in stores at the moment. Pair them with a printed hair accessory and a pair of killer shades to finish your colour-cohesive outfit.
