      DIY Magic Photo Cube

      Dads have given us many things that make us who we are today, from our looks to our passions. For many, the father figure in their life was the first person to show them their favourite movie or introduce them to a new sport or hobby. So, this Father’s Day, we want to celebrate all the things we got from our dad, whether it’s our nose or love of food! We couldn’t think of a better way to show our appreciation than with this DIY magic photo cube. Surprise Dad, or spend some quality time together this Father's Day and get crafty with these DIY photo cubes together!

       

      Here’s what you’ll need:  



      • 8 x wooden blocks (you can even use wooden alphabet blocks) 
      • Transfer tape (only $8 at Kmart) 
      • 10 x images of your choice (2 landscape and 8 square) 
      • 1 x spacer – made out of 4 layers of double-sided tape stuck together 
      • Scissors  

       

      Step 1 



      Attach your images to the transfer tape, ensuring that you only peel off one side for now.  

       

      Step 2 


      Place your images into the same order as our example image. 

       

      Step 3 


      Cut your images into the corresponding pieces seen in the example image. Be sure to match this example image exactly.  

       

      Step 4 


      Assemble four cubes together, and stick photo one onto the blocks.  

       

      Step 5 


      Assemble the other four cubes together, place the spacer vertically in the middle, and stick photo two horizontally onto the blocks.  

       

      Step 6 


      Flip the four cubes with photo one upside-down.  

       

      Step 7 


      Place the four cubes with photo two on top of the cubes with photo one.  

       

      Step 8  


      Grab four cubes with your left hand, and the other four with your right hand, and fold photo two into half. You should be left with eight blank cubes facing upwards.  

       

      Step 9 


      Place the spacer horizontally in the middle, and stick photo three onto the cubes.  

       

      Step 10  


      Grab the top four cubes with your left hand, and the bottom four cubes with your right hand, and fold photo three in half. You should be left with eight black cubes facing upwards.  

       

      Step 11 


      Stick photo four onto the cubes.  

       

      Step 12 


      Grab the two left-most blocks with your left hand, and the two right-most blocks with your right hand, and fold them upwards to create four blank cubes facing upwards.  

       

      Step 13 


      Stick photo five onto the cubes.  

       

      Step 14 


      Rotate the entire cube to the left. You should be left with four blank cubes.  

       

      Step 15  


      Stick photo six onto the cubes.  

       

      Step 16  


      Rotate the entire cube to the left again, and stick photo seven onto the blank cubes.  

       

      Step 17 


      Repeat step 16 again but for photo eight this time.  

       

      Step 18 


      Rotate the entire cube to the left, and then backwards, to expose another four blank cubes.  

       

      Step 19 


      Stick photo nine onto the cubes.  

       

      Step 20  


      Rotate away from you twice to expose the last four blank cubes, and stick photo ten onto the cubes.  


      Take a moment to watch the magic unfold (quite literally) as you discover all the pictures on the cube! Who would have thought that eight simple blocks could transform into a fantastic photo cube? It’s definitely one of those crafts where you have to trust the process, but doing it with your dad makes it even better. Now is the perfect time to show your appreciation for everything your dad has done for you and give your father figure the gift of some quality time together. Happy Father’s Day!
