DIY nut mosaic kids craft

Category: kids

If you’re itching for an epic craft afternoon with the kids then we recommend trying out this fun bean, seed, and nut mosaic craft idea! The snail nut mosaic is an absolute gem when you’re running low on supplies. Just rummage through your pantry and rescue and forgotten grains, nuts, and beans (talk about turning trash into treasure), then all you need is some cardboard! Using cardboard that is begging to be recycled is ideal, but if not then a quick trip to your local Stockland will have you covered.

The best part about this craft idea is that there’s no set design, so each artwork will be a unique expression of your little one’s creative genius. Start with our snail example as a launching pad for their artistic adventures and once they’re comfortable, let their imagination take flight as they conjure up butterflies, trees, starfish, and more. Keep reading to discover how to bring the creation to life.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Product captions: Coles Australian Blanched Almonds 150g $4.50, Coles Sunflower Seeds 150g $1.20, Coles Natural Almonds Prepacked 350g $6, Coles McKenzie’s White Beans 375g $2.30, Coles Artline Permanent Marker $3.71, Kmart 25 Pack A4 Cardstock $5, Kmart Clear Glue $3.25, Kmart Paper Mate 3 Pack HB Pencil $1.75, Kmart Scissors $2.

  • Almonds, blanched almonds, seeds, and beans (the list is endless, really!)
  • Cardboard (only $5 for a 25 pack from Kmart)
  • Craft glue
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Black marker
  • Snail template, cut out (download your free printable one here)

Step one:

On the cardboard, trace around the snail template with a pencil, and cut around the outline with scissors.

Step two:

Now onto the fun part! Add a touch of craft glue onto the back of your nuts, seeds, and beans and stick them onto the shell part of the snail. Arrange them however you like!

Step three:

Draw a face onto your snail to give it some character! We used a black marker, but you can use googly eyes, glitter glue, or crayons.

Step four:

Scavenge the garden for two small twigs. Use a touch of craft glue to stick them onto your snail – these are going to be the antennae.

Now all that’s left to do is gather your little artists and dive into the mosaics! Prepare for an afternoon filled with laughter, creativity, and a whole lot of fun. When the creations are complete, they will deserve a prime spot on the fridge. Happy crafting!
