Ultimate gift wrapping guide

Category: gift

The season of gift-giving is fast approaching and we’re noticing that easy-to-wrap presents are becoming a thing of the past when it comes to kids’ toys. Instead, shelves are lined with seemingly impossible objects to cover (from footballs to bottles and everything in between) – who knew the world of gift wrapping could be so daunting? Then, there are also the gifts you need to disguise! Fear not, we’ve got two ways to make your life easier and add a touch of mystery to gifting this festive season – just follow our step-by-step instructions below.

How to wrap awkward shaped gifts

Here’s what you’ll need:
• Wrapping paper
• Clear tape
• Hole punch
• Scissors
• Ribbon
• Your gifts, of course!

Step one:

Align the width of your gifts with your wrapping paper, but be sure to add a few extra centimetres (for good measure.)

Tip: the paper should be wide enough to overlap the gift slightly.

Step two:

Remove the gifts and fold the paper in half. Be sure to flatten the edges so that the wrapping remains crisp. Tape down to secure.

Tip: at this stage you should have a long rectangular-like sleeve.

Step three:

To create the base, fold one end up by approximately 20cm and press to create a crease. Crease again on the diagonals – this should create a diamond-like shape.

Step four:

Fold the diamond shape into a narrow hexagon and secure it with tape.

Step five:

Slide your gift through the open end of the sleeve and roll it closed.

Step six:

Grab the hole punch and create two holes through the top of the wrapping.

Step seven:

Thread the ribbon through the punched holes and tie a bow to complete.

How to disguise gifts with gift wrapping

Here’s what you’ll need:

• A rectangular or square-shaped gift (anything in a box)
• Wrapping paper
• Empty cardboard tubes (one paper towel roll and four toilet rolls)
• Scissors
• Clear tape

Step one:

Wrap the box and rolls as you would a normal present (think of them as all individual pieces at this stage).

Step two:

Place the smaller rolls on the base of the box and the longer roll at the top, then secure with tape. (This should resemble the shape of a dinosaur).

Tip: you can even add a tail!
