Spring has officially sprung! The sun is out, the birds are chirping, and the flowers are blooming, which means now is a great time to get the kids out and about enjoying the outdoors. With school holidays upon us, what better way to let your kids have some out-of-school fun than a celebratory garden party! Whether it’s someone’s birthday or a just-because type of affair, a garden party is a great way to keep your kids entertained these holidays. It’s also a great way for kids to have their friends over and keep the mess outside – winning! As we bask in these beautiful springtime days, we’ve put together your ultimate guide to hosting an epic garden party for the little ones. Check out our full-proof guide below.

Set the scene

First things first, you’ll want to organise your table and decorations. A garden party is a celebration of all things natural, so you’ll want to go for an earthy, neutral colour palette for your party. This is also a great way to keep things gender-neutral. Opt for rustic fabrics like calico, brown paper and jute for that back to nature feel. You can choose to set up a proper table setting, but personally, we love a more casual approach with a low table and lots and lots of comfy cushions. Plus, the kids are sure to love being able to sit and play on the grass.

Since this is a garden party, it’s only fitting that fresh flowers decorate your table. We recommend opting for Australian natives to fit in with the earthy, natural feel of your table styling. This is also an awesome opportunity to teach your children about our native flora, as well as the pollination process that is so important to our natural environment.

When it comes to your plates and cutlery, disposable is the way to go to avoid accidents and for a quick and easy clean up. The good news is, so many of our Stockland retailers offer much more sustainable options such as sugar cane, bamboo or paper plates and cups as opposed to plastic. You can also grab some biodegradable napkins and wooden cutlery that’s a lot nicer to the environment – plus they’re perfectly tonal! Again, this is another opportunity to weave in some educational information for the kids, so why not chat to the kids about sustainability, recycling and biodiversity while you set up your beautiful garden party!

Fresh foods & garden goodies

Okay, we all know this is the part the kids get the most excited for – the snacks! There is no limit to what you can put on your outdoor spread. We love going for fresh fruits and vegetable snacks, as they align with the garden theme and are a good, healthy inclusion. You can also treat the little ones to some delicious doughnuts from the guys at Donut King. What kid isn’t going to be thrilled when they walk up to a doughnut tower, right? They’ve got an awesome range specifically for kids that look and taste great – because it’s all about balance.

If you’re feeling like getting creative in the kitchen you could even try our butterfly pretzels recipe, as shown in the video below. It’s a super simple, easy-to-follow recipe that perfect for doing with the children. Plus, butterflies for a garden party… has to be done!
