Weekend Family Activities

Category:

If you’re not sure how to make the most of family time on the weekends. Don’t fret! Here are some ideas to get you started.

It’s said that 99 per cent of your time and effort goes into three basic things: your house, your work, and your family. And with many of us combating busy work schedules during weekdays it’s important to set aside time to be with your loved ones when it reaches the weekend (especially during the school terms). After all, family time isn’t just for the holidays!

Scheduling fun activities will not only give you and your kids something to look forward to throughout the week but will also amp up the weekend vibes! Without further ado, here is your local Stockland Centre’s guide to making the most of family time – think all things outdoor toys, games, arts and crafts, and family movies!

Outdoor toys and games

Family fun doesn’t always require leaving the neighbourhood. If you’re looking to stay home and still have fun, then outdoor toys and games are the way to go. Backyard picnics, bike riding, planning a treasure hunt, or even washing the car, there’s a multitude of activities and projects to undertake as a whole family.

We recommend creating a jar filled with your favourite ideas and when Friday night hits each week, pick one out of the jar! But first, you’ll need to stock up on some supplies from your local Stockland centre – from bikes and rollerblades to picnic rugs and car cleaning supplies, we have plenty of stores centre wide, so you can be sure to always find what you’re after!

Arts and crafts

These days it seems that kids (and even parents!) are so consumed with technology that we often steer clear from arts and crafts in our spare time, but did you know that an activity as simple as colouring has a slew of developmental benefits? Crafting also makes for a great way to bond with your kids!

Before tackling your first craft project, head into Kmart to pick up stationary essentials and DIY craft kits – now you can make a family scrapbook or even a cookbook! And if you’re a parent to a toddler, be sure to grab some supplies for sensory crafts such as slime and finger painting – did you know that sensory play promotes cognitive growth and fosters social interaction?

Family movies

On rainy or dreary days, it’s perfectly fine to set up on the sofa for the day and watch some movies – after a busy week, you’ve earned it! Pick up a Chromecast device at Big W to easily stream movies from your phone onto your television and then head into Coles for some movie snacks!

Tip: consider ditching the modern cartoons for old classics to help your kids learn more about culture, social relations, and vital chronologies!

‘I’m bored’ is a phrase you’ll never hear on weekends again – you’ll have far too many fun activities to keep your whole family busy! And when all else fails, why not go shopping (not grocery shopping, of course) just unbridled family fun at your local Stockland centre.
